Fixed Gear Crit

The rider and the bike: Stefan Rothe

Fixed gear bikes are in essence very simple. However, to compete in the front of Red Hook Crit, or other big international fixed gear crits, high-end materials are often used by the riders to maximise their performance. In the series ‘the rider and the bike’ we want to highlight the fixed gear bikes of the ‘pro’s’. We kick-off the series with Stefan Rothe who is a renowned crit rider in the American scene and this year entered the fixed gear crit scene representing team Intelligentsia Racing together with Colin Strickland, and Marius Petrache.

Name: PINARELLO Maat 60.1
Frame: Pinarello Maat60.1, 60HM1K Torayca Carbon
Total weight: 7.4kg
The MAAT 60.1 uses Toray’s 60HM1K carbon fiber, which is combined with Pinarello’s asymmetric layup and design in the rear triangle that is built to counter the drivetrain flex that affects each side of the bike in slightly different ways. That asymmetric build places the fiber plies exactly where they’re needed to balance those forces, which means Pinarello can use marginally less carbon to save weight while preserving the torsional stiffness a racer needs.
